OUR STORY

In Swahili, a twiga translates to a giraffe. Twiga Coffee is as naturally African as the gentle giraffe.

In East Africa, where we started our coffee company, there is a folktale that explains why giraffes have such long necks.

In the story, the giraffes were attentive to inspiration from above, so God gave them long necks to make hearing messages from heaven easier. Throughout East Africa, giraffes are regarded as spirit animals whose towering stature gives them a natural connection to things that are heavenly. The giraffe is thoroughly grounded to the physical world, but also in touch with things that are inspired, that are a delight to the senses, and that bring harmony to the world.

For us, our coffee is a lot like the giraffe. Twiga Coffee is a delight to the senses. It plays an inspired role in providing a livelihood for many people and we try to stay in tune with things that are uplifting for our customers and our communities.

A Powerful Inspiration for Powerful Coffee

For the Twiga Coffee company, coffee is something natural that can inspire energy and awareness, generate delightful tastes and aromas, and bring opportunity to hundreds of small farmers not only in Africa but also now in Central America.

Growing up on a coffee plantation in Kenya, the two brothers who founded Twiga Coffee practically have coffee in their veins. Visiting 32 coffee farms in 18 countries and sampling over 500 coffee blends, the brothers know how to roast premium beans to make a wonderful cup. But Twiga Coffee’s commitment to great coffee does not stop there.

At Twiga Coffee we aim to achieve excellence not only in the coffee that we offer but also in the relationships that we foster with farmers. We are committed to supporting coffee farmers who take enormous care in not only growing quality coffee but also in taking care of their employees as well as the environment.

Our buying policy is based on ethical, sustainable sourcing, and we look for ways to infuse spirituality and social commitment into our coffee by donating 10% of all sales to environmental and children’s foundations within Africa.
